Foundation recognizes Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit
The Dauphin Hospital Foundation wishes to congratulate the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit on 25 years of training rural medical residents. The Residency Unit —based out of Dauphin and in affiliation with Ste. Rose —began training physicians back in July 1991.
The Parkland Family Medicine Resident Unit is preparing to celebrate its 25th Anniversary of becoming the University of Manitoba’s Parkland training site on June 9-11th.
Dauphin Hospital Foundation Chairperson Doug Deans says the Parkland, and now Prairie Mountain Health region, is very fortunate to have benefited from the nationally accredited program.
“The region has been successful in training medical residents that end up staying in our health region and within rural Manitoba in general. If you go to a health centre or medical clinic within the Parkland, chances are there are graduates from the program that have either worked there or continue to practice medicine there. The Foundation sincerely congratulates the University of Manitoba, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, for its ongoing dedication and commitment to this very successful initiative,” Deans stated.
Deans says the Residency Unit could not achieve its success without commitments from the Unit Directors and support staff as well as local physicians and health care professionals that act as preceptors.
“The Foundation remains very supportive of the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit. We wish to thank Unit Director Dr. Scott Kish, and the support staff for their continued commitment. We also recognize former Unit Director Dr. David O’ Hagan for all of his work over the years. We look forward to even more success stories and accomplishments in years to come.”
